The Debut

The Debut

Hello beautiful mamas!

My name’s Brenda this is my very first EVER post for KamKam2x: Mommy Diaries. I’m so excited about doing this blog and have so much to share in terms of motherhood. I’m no doctor, nurse, or professional. This blog is strictly my own personal experiences.

When I was pregnant I went Google crazy! I guess that’s the thing about our generation. We’re always turning to the internet for answers instead of God, hmmm our parents, or our primary doctor lol. My boyfriend and I downloaded apps, followed blogs, forums and medical pages. I did intensive research on the weird changes my body was going through and surprisingly, there were other moms who were going through the EXACT same things. Well, fast forward to December 16, 2017, I was blessed with a set of beautiful twin boys Kameron and Kamden!!  That explains the name of my blog “KamKam2x” ha-ha.

I knew after college and landing a good job, my next step would be kids. Every time I seen a cute baby on Facebook I caught baby fever. I had no idea that I’d be given the 2 for 1 deal! My sons are THE best thing that has happened to me and still to this day, I can’t believe I am a mommy of twins. “Denny and Kam” we call them, will be 6 months tomorrow as I’m writing this. Me and dad have planned some fun things for this father’s day weekend (He wants to take them to see the Incredibles 2). Yes, I graduated with a communication degree and no I’m not a grammar/English genius. However, I think this blog would open up conversation for mothers and mothers to be to share tips and tricks, experiences, and encouragement on this here journey of motherhood.

Stay tuned for upcoming stories, reviews and the day and a life of a mom of two. I will try my best to answer any questions you ladies have and am open to suggestions, advice, and constructive criticism. Thank you and see you soon!

Love and kiss those babies for me!

Review: Shea Moisture Baby Body Wash/Shampoo Following Jamaican Castor Oil for Hair Growth

Review: Shea Moisture Baby Body Wash/Shampoo Following Jamaican Castor Oil for Hair Growth

We all know black people must show their hair lots of TLC with moisture, protective styling and so on and so forth. Nonetheless, babies are typically born with a good texture of hair but as they get older, they need that same care. Denny and Kam have beautiful, juicy curls and I’ve been looking for products to use for their hair.

My son Denny is a wild sleeper and mainly sleeps on his back which contributes to cradle cap. He’s lost most of his hair in the back. Kameron sleeps on his stomach so cradle cap isn’t a big issue but his hair is dry. I’d like to keep both of my boys’ hair in a healthy state. From time to time, I’d just spray olive oil in their hair before we’d leave out the door, but it made their hair heavy with oil. I tried a grease called “Baby Don’t be Bald”, an old school product me and my family used for years. That was also too greasy for their hair lol. Man, it left grease spots on the head of their car seats and it reminded me of the movie “Coming to America”- (singing) Let yooouuurrr soulll glowww!

Any way, one day I was browsing You Tube on ways you can cater to your baby’s hair and I found an interesting video uploaded by Youtuber Swaggy Swans. She has a hair regime for her infant daughter in which she just uses Shea Moisture’s body wash/shampoo and Jamaican castor oil. The link is below:

Baby Hair Care/Youtube Tutorial

I was so excited to go out and buy these products, yesterday on my lunch break I decided to run to the beauty supply store next door. I bought the Jamaican castor oil for $6.99. In the video Swaggy uses a medicine syringe to spread the oil throughout her baby’s hair. At the time, I didn’t understand why she didn’t just rub it in her hands and massage it in the scalp but I see now the oil is VERY thick. There are different ingredients that promotes different needs for the hair. I chose the one with peppermint oil infused. it smells really good and has a tingling feel that contributes to blood circulation in the scalp.

I purchased the Shea Moisture Wash from Walgreen’s for about $8 bucks but it was on sale for 30% off. Make sure to also sign up for Walgreen’s rewards points because it can help out with discounts as well.

Before bed last night I put my twins in the tub and washed their hair really good. I washed and rinsed once because this is a good cleansing poo. After getting them dressed I used the oil with the medicine syringe and used my fingers to massage it into the scalp. FYI I could not find their mini comb or brush which drove me crazy.

The Youtuber uses a cute little bonnet for her baby every night but I have boys so it’s a no-go for me.

This is my first time using the two but I will be updating you guys every week with any progress. Please let me know the products you use for your little one or if you do try this regime share with us how it turned out for you!

5 Must Haves for Baby: Kam and Denny’s Go-tos

5 Must Haves for Baby: Kam and Denny’s Go-tos

When Kam and Denny were born there were some knick knacks that made life a bit easier. Some of these must-haves were gifts from the shower or me and dad purchased on our own.  We still use these items on an everyday basis. Nowadays there are so many things that are necessary for baby but if we were to go through them all, we’d be here all night. If  you’re a mom to be and you’re trying to scurry to put together a registry, don’t stress out. You’re good luv, Enjoy lol!

1. Humidifier

I didn’t know how much of a difference a humidifier could make for you AND baby. Before Kam and Denny were born, we had just recently moved into our two bedroom apartment in the boonies. As nice and cozy as it was, just after a few nights of being there, I noticed it was extremely stuffy. I’d wake up in the middle of the night with sinus issues and have mini head colds from time to time. I thought it might have been some hidden dust from the newly renovations. The humidifier although helped with dryness in the air especially when my twins became sick. It helped them sleep at night and they didn’t wake up so congested.

Vick’s has different versions of humidifiers. We purchased ours from Woodman’s. You can use the Vick’s pads or liquid which lasts for hours!

2. Nose Aspirator

nose2

A nose aspirator aka nose bulb is a big must-have! Of course babies aren’t able to blow their noses yet or cough up mucus. And if you don’t have this, like me, you might end actually sucking the snot out of your baby’s nose! I know what you’re thinking- “disgusting” right? I couldn’t find it one day and felt bad for my son Denny. It seems like he had been congested since the day he was born. He spent three days in the NICU for some minor breathing problems. I had to literally suck the mucus out and spit it out on tissue. The hospital may give you a couple of bulbs to start off with but nowadays there so many different versions. They’re getting creative!

3. Johnson & Johnson Bedtime Baby Wash/Lotion

Johnson and Johnson could do no wrong. This stuff works wonders for my boys. I received a set of the lotion and body wash from my baby shower and the boys’ grandma bought a super-sized set that lasted a good couple months. I use this for bath time every night and give my babies a bottle right before bed. It helps them sleep peacefully and calm throughout the night. It’s practically sold everywhere: Wal-Mart, Amazon, or your local drugstore. Here’s a product review posted on Johnson’s website with more information on its ingredients:

4. Car Seat Cover

My babies were winter babies so it was important to have them covered out and about. That’s if we HAD to leave the house whether it’d be for a trip to the doctor’s office or grocery store. Don’t forget your fleece blankets of course and coats for baby if it’s chilly out. Having a sick baby is not fun. My twins had something similar in the link below:

5. Nursing Pillow

These cute comfy nursing pillows aka Boopys made a comeback recently. The pillows are bigger and better with more cushioning. I chose not to breastfeed but they still come in handy. Because Kam and Denny were born prematurely, they use to be able to fit on just one. My sons got another set from their grandmother and they loved sleeping on them. Now that my sons are 6 months and at the supported sitter stage, I use them to prop them up on. Don’t leave your baby unattended in these; Not on the bed, couch, or table please. On the floor is the safest way.

What are some of your must-haves for your little one? Please leave a comment below 🙂
